Some say it's because their close to death and are coping with religion.
Even though they were very likely atheists throughout their entire lives.

This may be true, but I prepose a different theory:
Its a way to trick god, if there is one, and gain quick and easy access into heaven and avoid their well deserved spot in hell.

Boomers are the most hated generation for a reason, their selfish, greedy, entitled, hypocritical and treat younger people badly.

As nasty, arrogant and nacissitic as they are, their not dumb enough to know that no one escapes the grim reaper, everybody dies.
Some religions, like Christianity preach that recognising and accepting a certain god or certain prophet as the one true lords and saviours will gain them a quick and easy place in heaven before they die.

Yeah Christianity is an attempt to scam the Gods, boomers would never want to be accountable to them, better swear on Jhesu's foreskin so they can go to his enclave and avoid the Gitmo he's made to torture those who still follow the Gods

Isn't it mostly cause they're from a more religious era?

Boomers are the Jewish generation, and fun fact, actual Jews have strategies for tricking their god

Probably, but religion in the West was drastically declining since the industrial revolution during the 1800s.

And also, I'm referring strictly to boomers, as in, people born between 1946-1964.
The boomers were known as the hippies when they were young, and with all the degeneracy and debauchery they got up to, that pretty much tells me they didn't care much about religion.
Or if they did, it was more liberal sects of it.

Religion was more popular back then

They’re old and ugly now so it’s easy for them. They never actually made compromises in their youth for the sake of religion. Can you really call that true faith

My parents are both boomers and are hard atheists

Hypothetically, I thought there was a stipulation in Christianity that you were supposed to worship God for His own sake instead of just trying to avoid hell. Because of this, would not the above be considered "false faith" by said god and he would send you to hell anyway for your lack of real faith?

I am not entirely sure how this is supposed to work as I am not religious and I was not raised religious.

Well, Matthew 7:21-23 says:
"Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven.
22 Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name?
23 And then I will say to them openly, I never knew you; depart from Me, you evil-doers."

As well as Mark 8:35 says: "For whoever wants to save his life, will lose it and whoever gives up his life for My sake and the Gospel's will save it." Which directly dismantles belief as a practice in the sense where, if you believe but don't follow God, you will not be saved as you will only try to save your life by doing so, but if you feel like doing anything for God (dying, going to hell, etc.), you will gain salvation as an act of mutual love. So yeah, you can't be saved by your own will even though you believe in God, if you follow Him, he'll grant you a place besides him, if that is your will, because then, your will will be His.
