Never played the gow games, but I watched an IRL friend play them in 2024.
First one looked kinda meh, you only get 1 weapon and fight the same enemies over and over again.
I also don't really fight kratos to be an interesting protag and his motivation to be weak.
His wife and daughter got killed, but he can easily take as many foids as he wants to replace them

There was a really based video (I forgot what exactly it was) covering Elden Ring, and the distinction between two types of games:
"low investment" games where you can just hop in, get the controls down and start playing. It doesn't require much cognitive effort, or investment, and you can play it after a long day at work. Think yellow paint slop or ubislop.
"high investment" games where the game demands your cognitive effort and concentration, and rewards you in exchange for it. These are harder to get into, and this category of games is reserved mostly for people who are dedicated to gaming. These games are usually tailored for a niche audience and don't sell well. One exception being Elden Ring.
high investment games that normies might know are souls games, escape from tarkov, maybe PoE. On the most extreme end, you have autism simulators such as HOI3/4, eve online, dwarf fortress, factorio etc.
The problem is, we view games from the high investment perspective, but the normies eat up the low investment stuff. Our stuff will almost always be a niche.
