And if you were not a Russian who wanted to preserve your identity, you had to speak at least two languages: Russian and your own. The goal of the Bolsheviks was to create one unified Soviet people, which was essentially the same plan as Kalergie's, to create one unified Soviet nation. They even created a system of names that were not related to any particular nation, such as Vladlen for Vladimir Lenin, Rem for Revolution, Engels Marx, and so on. However, they eventually realized that this was a utopian idea and wanted to slowly make everyone Russian in languages/Cultural plan.
