I spent most of my university days alone. Since nearly all my classmates and teammates were in relationships, I buried myself in my work, spending most of my time "studycelling" in the lab or library. I generally kept to myself to avoid any potential misunderstandings or trouble.
One evening around 7 PM, a classmate offered me a ride home. Exhausted from a long day of lectures, I initially agreed, but I hesitated when he mentioned there would be girls joining us. He tried to reassure me, insisting they were friendly and that I should just come along.
The moment we met them, however, the atmosphere shifted. They didn't even acknowledge me; instead, they immediately pulled out their phones. When I tried to introduce myself, I was met with a dismissive "okay" before they went back to their screens. After staring at me with clear discomfort, one of them whispered to my friend that they had "urgent work" and couldn't come anymore. To save face and end the embarrassment, I simply said okay and walked away.
