Personality is developed through the early stages of a person's childhood. The development of the personality can be very heavily influenced by the environment a person grows up in. What people such as r/IncelTears members consider to be "bad personality" is most often the result of bad childhood experiences. If someone is bullied a lot as a child, it will have serious consequences on their personality, such as anxiety, trust issues, and hatred for the people around them. This is an entirely rational response, if everyone you ever knew growing up treated you like shit, then it would make sense for you to hate everyone. The most common trait about a person that will cause people to bully them is of course looks. Being fat, short, or ugly, will make all the average and good-looking people despise you. As a result, if we are to say that personality matters, it would be completely hypocritical to simultaneously claim that looks do not matter. Your appearance will define how people treat you, and will as a result shape your personality.
