If you're at least 4/10 you shouldn't be an incel. I think it's that when there's crabs in a bucket the crab that tries to climb out gets dragged down by other crabs. It's a flawed analogy because the other crabs are just trying to get out too, and in case of this place we're supposedly trying to drag everybody else down because we're evil but that's where that expression comes from.

The crab bucket thing is from the fishing trade

When fishermen had a bunch of recently caught crabs, they would sort them into buckets. Sometimes they would observe the buckets and see some crabs trying to escape. But then their fellow crabs in the bucket drag them back into it. Obviously the crabs who remain in the bucket will be killed. So it’s like the crabs (your peers) are trying to keep you all in a bad situation.
