Steam is without a doubt just as bad as Sony or Nintendo. I'd argue they've pushed PCs to be closer to consoles when it comes to one company having so much power over what's played by the masses. Steam constantly engages in censorship. They've refused to publish games with cute anime girls unless they cave to their demands and censor certain elements.

Steam certainly does have its flaws, there's no denying that—but to claim that they're even 5% as bad as literally any other game company is a sentiment I can't stand behind. They're a private company, which is already a massive benefit in my books, meaning they can determine what is best for their company and users in the long-term, rather than stressing about the short-term profits they make.

Secondly, they are probably one of the only companies that I've seen that have an exceptional launcher. Every other one that I've used is absolutely insufferable in some manner, and steam just doesn't have that problem while also providing numerous other features that are nice to have.

Thirdly, their sales are REALLY good. I typically pirate most of my games, but there are some games that I want to play online, such as Guilty Gear Strive. Luckily, if I really want to save on it, I can always just usually count on steam to have one of their seasonal sales and get whatever games I need during that time.

Fourthly, I love the communities that you have access to within Steam itself. The content, comments, media, groups, and so on and so forth. Steam's communities are alive and constantly have people joining them.

Fifthly, I think they've proven quite a bit that they are pro-consumer 95% of the time, rather than catering to the game developers and other corporations. The time with Helldivers 2, for instance.

All of this comes from the fact that Valve is probably one of the few bastions of companies left where the majority of the employees are geeks, nerds, incels, and other various people who are actually passionate and care about what they're doing—rather than just hiring anyone who can code. People who used to develop our games before they all became DEI slop.

I mainly use Steam to play my favorite shooter, Counter Strike. It just mogs every other dogshit on PC. Origin, dogshit client with dead Battlefield games. Blizzard launcher games dogshit. The only other acceptable launcher to me is Epic Games, but I just use that for chink games like Genshin Impact and even then Steam is much more advanced and better.

Valve has become a lazy company though, but no company has brought us a good alternative to Steam. I just wish they worked more on the gameplay aspect of Counter Strike, its such a fun and awesome game, but right now just a dumbed down version of CSGO.
