Discussion Starting to feel like that unrealistic, idealized high school relationships in fiction (especially in anime/manga) is a big reason we feel bad.

Obviously it’s better to have been in young relationships to gain vital experience and to maybe have some nice things to look back on but I think idealized young relationships in the media we consume (especially in anime and manga) very much amplifies these feelings of dread, when in really that the vast majority of teen relationships aren’t nearly as nice as what we see in fiction. They are often drama filled and most end.
Again I am not trying to discount anyone’s feelings about this and I also really feel bad about missing out on young love and get that young love has way less requirements than adult love (money, your own place, a job and a car don’t matter as a high schooler or college student), but I just feel like that unrealistic fiction fuels our feelings on this a lot.

We will never know, and I think never experiencing any love at all sucks more.
I mostly lament how not experiencing young love has made me not be able to go through things that would have helped be develop into an adult.

I am currently watching Nagatoro anime and when anime gets calm ı think to myself ''Why tf am ı watching this ? This will never happen to me,no girl will approach to me or allow me near them. I am literally coping like a subhuman'' but then funny voice and colors come back and ı forget about everything.

İt also affected woman since almost all high schoolers in popular teen movies in 2000's had giga chads and regularly shitted on lower males.Making them feel like Giga-chad = Chad Chad = Average man Normie = Loser but dateable and anything lower than that = creep
