Tbh we have more surveillance cameras and the such than any other country despite the smaller population.

If we assume that 1/1000000 will commit a violent act and pass the camera, it means that a positive (this person has a weapon on them) alert will only be correct one time out of ten thousand alerts.

3D printing technology has come very far, one could simply 3D print a gun that isn't in the conventional shape of a gun, and it won't be of a material that a metal detector would pick up
Also you could even print it out in the shape of a gun and carry the disassembled parts on you, store the bullets in a container that screens out whatever metal detectors look for
There are a lot of work arounds for this system
