Sometimes I wonder if I have wanted sex because of society or because I actually want it.
I mean think about it, we currently live in an era where the average man literally has access to a million naked and hot girls at his fingertips. Searching "porn" on Google returns 2,690,000,000 results. With all of this variety does it really make sense to still want to have sex with a woman? Why have sex with one girl when you can see a hundred girls naked at any given time? The answer is society.
The 40 year old virgin, American Pie, Porky's, Superbad and The Last American Virgin were all hit movies about men trying to lose their virginity. The message in these movies is that being a male virgin is embarrassing and men should attempt to lose their virginity as soon as possible. Recently, videos under the YouTube category of "taking virgins to the club" have gained millions of views where scummy YouTubers take a virgin to the club and try to get him laid.
It is clear that today's society places a high value on males losing virginity, but it wasn't always like this. In the old days, being a virgin was associated with having a closer bond towards God. Christ himself lived a life of chastity and thus "voluntary chastity is the imitation of him who was the virgin Son of a virgin Mother". Similarly, having sex before marriage was also considered a sin and having sex outside of your marriage was a sin. In fact, at one point in time, if you were single, you would be expected to be a virgin.
So, the next time you feel ashamed or depressed for being a virgin ask yourself, is it because society wants me to lose my virginity or because I actually want sex?
