For those of you who are not familiar with philosophy, Arthur Schopenhauer was a philosopher of the German idealist movement.
He is also known for not having much success with women (sub 5, stage 5 Nordwood...), he was involuntarily celibate.
One of his most famous texts is called "Über die Weiber" (On women), published in 1851. I don't think he was avant-gardiste because it seems that this was already the thinking of his time, but here are some interesting quotes from it:
- "Women remain children all their lives, for they always see only what is near at hand, cling to the present, take the appearance of a thing for reality, and prefer trifling matters to the most important."
- "In the mind of a woman there is hardly ever a sense of justice, in the strict sense of the word. They are guided not by what is just, but by what is useful to them; hence they are governed more by instinct and inclination than by reason or principle. Deceit is their natural weapon, just as claws are to the lion, and horns to the bull."
And the most violent one : "Nothing different should be expected of women if one considers that they are essentially designed to propagate the species, and not to work out the problems of philosophy and science. They exist in the interest of the species, and not at all for their own. Accordingly, they are, by their very nature, meant to obey."
What do you think about it ? I think he's not wrong.
