I think the Russians should not even fly aircraft at most times, because their command and control seems too shitty to tell which drones, aircraft, missiles are theirs or not.
So Russia will need a ton of infantry up front and digging in, then behind them waaaay back a ton of artillery. This way the Russian vehicles aren't in as much danger from the Javelins, which it seems Russia cannot stop those, but the Javelins only have a 2km range at most. Whereas artillery can shoot like 10km range or more.
The problem the Russians then have is the drones of various kinds, including small cruise missile like things which are essentially kamikaze drones. At the moment the Ukrainians only have a few of the Turkish small drones. But with good air defenses the drones aren't as big of a problem. Then its back to a slug fest with artillery, and infantry up front dug in.
The other thing is if Russia can get control of the rest of these provinces, then the Russians don't have to be on offense anymore. They only have to dig in heavily and defend.
