What's funny is seeing people say "read the room" as a passive aggressive argument on the internet. Saying it on the internet makes zero sense because the saying "read the room" means reading the general vibe/mood of a small group of people in real life. So I guess "the room" is supposed to be the general public in that case. "look I'm getting more likes/upvotes than you, therefore I am objectively correct and you're wrong".

But even saying it in real life is invoking ad populum. By saying this you're confidently speaking on behalf of a group, who might not even actually agree with you and might think you're the asshole. They just won't speak up because they don't want to argue. The whole "silent majority" thing. I've seen cases like this.

There are times where saying this might be appropriate but you better be damn sure the people you're speaking on behalf of actually agree with you, otherwise you just look like a pretentious retard, who ironically can't "read the room" himself.
