to those who were on them regularly before:
I've been off and on and on alternatives of SSRI's for years. I'm currently on Lexapro 20 mg, Wellbutrin 300 mg, and Lamictal 400 mg. Only Lexapro is an SSRI, although Wellbutrin is supposed to make SSRI's more effective. Lamictal is by far the best drug I'm on, and is prescribed to reduce seizures, but it also helps depression and obsessive thoughts.
1. Did it lower (or even kill) your sex drive/libido?
Not... really. I think about sex all of the time, and crave sex, but I'm impotent much of the time. I spent an hour trying to cum earlier today and 2 hours last night, and couldn't do it. I eventually stopped masturbating because I felt like I was ripping the skin off my dick.
2. How did it affect your general attraction to females besides sex drive?
No effect.
3. How did it affect your motivation and focus abilities?
It's hard to say for sure. Lamictal has been the only drug that's made a definite improvement in my mood. SSRI's come and go with little effect. I'm dumber now (at 36 years old) than I was 20 years ago, but it would be irresponsible to directly blame medication for that. I'm still extremely motivated and goal oriented.
4. Did it give you any kind of 'contentment' feeling on longer run?
Not really. No. Not at all.
5. How did it affect your erection?
On a small dose of SSRI's it's difficult to orgasm and my genitals feel slightly numb. On higher quantities of SSRI's it's difficult to get erections at all.
6. Did it make you more indifferent towards people and situations?
It's hard to say. The effect of anti-depressants have never been satisfactory for me, but if I miss a dose I feel really really bad, so I'm not going to go off my medication without good reason.
My opinions on SSRI's are wishy-washy. My libido is still present, but more in a mentally-obsessed way rather than a heart-pounding hard-as-iron way. It's more difficult to get erections on SSRI's, but the anti-erection effect seems dependent on the amount you take. SSRI's haven't helped me much emotionally, but I need any help I can get so I'm not quitting them.
