The same as "free speech".
Be it western/eastern or whatever there will always be a ruling ideology/class and the rest gets suppressed more or less, if it's done by corporations/self-regulation & self-censorship of the media/deplatforming/employer harassment or by a state & its organs is unimportant.
What matters is only who you are ideologically aligned with and what their position is.
Whether the press is controlled by its sponsor or by the state, whether you are beat up/harassed by vigilantes/digital lynch mobs or the police is unimportant.
