Playing Baldur's Gate 1 for the first time, and it really feels like I'm on a grand adventure

It's all about the sense of progression and scarcity.

At first, you're a nobody. Literally the first enemy you encounter could one shot you. You have no gear, no supplies.

But then you gain some experience, you level up, you're getting better and better equipment. You explore dungeons, finds treasure. You're slaying stronger and stronger enemies.

It just feels great :feelsaww: It is a power fantasy. You're becoming strong

Cool, have fun broyo.

I've never played it personally, it doesn't look that interesting to me

And it's the freaking DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS, mang! :feelsgah:

This is where RPGs started.

I have no place in the human society, unfortunately. But I feel at home playing these games. I'm nerding and geeking :feelsautistic:

That's why i love games like these.
I've been raised by cruel MMORPG, where you started as a literally shit, progress was ultra slow, and if you died - you lost 1-2 days of your experience + some of items.
But man - satisfaction when you progress - priceless.

I played on ps2 if I remember well, good times!

I hope you continue to document your adventures in Baldur's Gate as you have done in other threads. I've already tried the game, but it's not really my thing. However, reading your stories is very entertaining.

Yes, something that has to be mentioned is that spiders are brutal in Baldur's Gate 1. They have high armor, they hit hard, and they also damage you over time with venom.

Good thing my mage has Sleep :feelsEhh:

:feelscomfy:90s crpgs are the ultimate life fuel

How do you rate it? How do you compare it to other CRPGs of that time? Do you think the difficulty level is proper?

The most similar other games I've like were Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, also god tier :feelsokman:

The most difficult part of BG1 is the beginning, there it is very luck and roll-based. You could get one shot and get game over by the first enemy. Those wolves in the forrest are nasty :feelsokman:

Even the manual puts me in an epic adventure quest mood. ''In the heart of a ruined temple, a wizard matches power
with a terrifying behir
'', this is how the guide starts, how fucking cool is that? :feelsgah:

And the manual also has that cool old timey paper texture. Too bad I don't have a physical copy.

They really don't make games like they used to.

Be careful if you go to the north-east area from the Temple of Beregost, there is a pack of wolves, but not just any wolves, they are dread wolves and vampiric wolves, they will destroy you.

But I was able to win, I am a Mage :feelsokman:

I cast Web, then I cast Grease, then everyone switched to ranged weapons, we turned the wolves in Swiss cheese :feelsokman:

Also, a tip from me, do not try to fight basilisks if you don't have some scrolls of protection against petrification :feelsokman: They will kill your team in 3 seconds :feelsokman:

A major tip for anyone who intends to play this, in order not to screw yourself up: if you kill a powerful enemy and it drops a seemingly uselss item like ''Ring'', ''Bracers'' and ''Boots'', TAKE IT because it is most likely a magical item. Right click on it and if it gives you the ''Identify'' option then it's magical.

At the beginning of the game I sold several magic items for like 5 gold pieces. Now if I try to buy them back, they are thousands of gold. If you kill the merchant, he doesn't drop the items. Can't pickpocket them either due to low skill.

It is absolutely BRUTAL. Magical items are supposed to have a blueish glow, but it is barely noticeable, you need a magnifying glass and have the magical item next to a regular item to notice the difference :feelsUgh:

Play Planescape: Torment next.
(I recommend looking up a stat guide before you play, I don't usually suggest this but certain dialogue is locked behind stats and the dialogue is the best part of the game so you want to make sure you have an optimal starting build, I think you need a combination of wisdom, int, and charisma iirc)

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 are two of my favorite childhood games, great games.

Noted :feelsYall: I have heard so many good things about it. But hopefully having high charisma is not essential, because I only want to play with low charisma. As a point of reference, my BG1 character started with 8 Charisma :feelsokman: I want my characters to be ugly and awkward like I am.

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 are two of my favorite childhood games, great games.
Baldur's Gate 3 is by far my most favorite game. I liked it so much that I felt the need to play the old ones too. After being done with the Baldur's Gate trilogy, I was thinking of playing the Divinity Original Sin games. But maybe I'll play Planescape, but we'll see :feelsokman:

Where to download the game nigga?

Theres a ring by a tree in friendly arm inn that doubles your 1st level spells and ankheg platemail in beregost gardens

Usually I pirate from the torrents :feelsokman:

But this time I purchased a cheap Steam key on one of those gray market key reseller websites.

Steam key? Like a whole steam account?
It was just a key, I activated it on my main account :feelsokman:

I recommend against purchasing Steam accounts, you will lose access to it easily :feelsokman:
