I keep telling my parents how I can't get a job in my field, how the job market is fucked beyond belief, and how it's a total waste of time to continue applying to these high-paying jobs that I'm specialized for. They just go

"Stop with the defeatist attitude, you can do whatever you set your mind to! There's no reason why these corporations don't want you as their top man! If you just apply and reach out there's gotta be some top hedge fund that wants to hire you and pay you $100k!!!"

But then when I suggest alternative career paths like becoming a correctional officer (rejected now), military officer, EMS first responder, oil rig floorhand, electrician, plumber, construction worker, etc... they come up with a million reasons why it's IMPOSSIBLE for me to get those jobs.

"Anon you're delusional! The military will never take you, why would they? And oil rig? You need connections for that! You need experience, they'll never want you! Construction???? They only hire guys who have experience as teenager! why are you so delusional you're going nuts!"

So apparently according to my parents.

I'm a cynical defeatist for not believing I can become an investment banker or hedge fund analyst.... but I'm delusional for thinking it's possible for me to become a plumber

It is true that the military has gotten very selective. So many people are joining because the food banks are starting to run out so ppl are joining for the food.
