I'm assuming the vast majority of you don't know who Nick Drake was, so I'll give you a brief summary of his life.
Who was Nick Drake?
Nicholas Rodney Drake was born on June 19, 1948 and died on November 25, 1974, at just 26 years old by taking his life on purpose via drug overdose.. He was a singer-songwriter who wrote some of the greatest folk albums of the late 1960s and early 1970s. His music, in my opinion, is absolutely superb. His unorthodox guitar tunings, incredible songwriting, gentle voice, introspective lyrics, and unique atmosphere all come together amazingly. He was extremely shy and withdrawn, especially during the later years of his life. He began releasing music in the late 1960s, but his albums sold very poorly, and he remained almost completely unknown while struggling with depression. He died on November 25, 1974, at just 26 years old. For decades, he was largely forgotten until 2000, when Volkswagen used his song "Pink Moon" in a commercial. That advertisement introduced countless people to his music and sparked a major resurgence in interest. Today, he is widely respected among passionate music listeners and musicians alike.
If you're curious, I'd recommend listening to "From the Morning," "Pink Moon," "River Man," "Place to Be," "Parasite," "Things Behind the Sun," and "Saturday Sun." I honestly recommend his music if you enjoy folksy, introspective songwriting. I would put him alongside, or even above, Elliott Smith, whom I also love dearly.
He is often compared to Vincent van Gogh because neither was truly recognized for their work until long after their deaths. Van Gogh famously sold very few paintings during his lifetime, and Nick Drake was considered a commercial failure, selling only a few thousand records.
Now, to the point of this thread.
Though I am not claiming Nick Drake was a truecel, he lived a very privileged life, was 6'3", and was MTN to HTN. He was also, in my opinion, a mentalcel. He struggled a lot with anxiety, depression, and self-doubt, which inevitably led to his premature death when he died at just 26. It is heavily stated as a big possibility that he died a virgin. He never had a girlfriend in his entire life, nor lived a promiscuous life, again, he was very shy, anxious, and depressed. It has never been proven that he died a virgin, or that he didn't die a virgin. But, like his premature death, it is heavily implied he died a virgin. Now I again want to clarify. I am not saying he is a truecel, or suffered as much as the average chud. He was wealthy, tall, and MTN to HTN at best. But for the 60s and 70s, he's the closest archetype you can imagine of someone dealing with our issues today.
