I keep hearing normies talk about how much today is doom and gloom and how much kids are "missing out" in the 90s before social media existed. was it really that happy-go-lucky and optimistic? I wanna hear your anecdotes since I did not exist during that time

It certainly was less bad than modern life. I’m no oldcel but that’s just common sense as internet hadn’t ruined real life social interaction yet and hypergamy wasn’t as bad before dating apps

only cels born in 1970s/first half of 1980s can share their opinion about it, they remembered this decade in a fully conscious state.

In my area, Internet was not a big part of social life until about 2010

The early 90s were grim (that's when Cobain shot himself and that depressive from Manic Street Preachers disappeared) and when the movie Slackers which sums the era up so well came out. Things were a little better in the late 90s maybe cos Prozac was being used by so many.
I didn't like the 90s (the fashion and music generally stank) but compared with now it was paradise.

was there a general sense of optimism at the time for the future? was politics generally boring and not as heated as now?

I watched all the same shows as adults. I saw what my older siblings were doing.

I could see how life was better before columbine and 9/11.

Sure I wasn't apart of any edgy teenage cliques but I wasn't after the 90s.

I used internet and napster. It would be like kids using incel.is and social media today.

I was born in 1999 but from what I understand the world really turned shitty after 9/11.

Yes, it was great. It was a time where good cars were still being made, because it was the time where they were banning the last of the good but toxic paints and processes. Pokemon and Japanese animation was fresh. You still had family restaurants that looked like family restaurants and it was cheap, a dollar got you a burger. You had actual nerds in charge of making games with exhilarating fantasy worlds and beautiful women. Race relations where stable. You had excellent movies still being made with both cgi but practical effects unlike todays movie that just rely on (some move star getting paid millions) and the cheapest c.g.i made by wageslaves. Also the internet was still not for normies. You still could hang out with and chat with friends. Whores were still whores, pushed to the corners of the porn sites instead of being worshipped by simps.

I don't think that there are many who remember life in the 1990s on here. You would have to be around 40.

I am 30 but older than most on here.

we were little kids in the 90s so who knows. Instinctively I'm going to say it was shit by 1995, maybe the 80s were better

I think things started to go to shit in the late 80s particularly.
Pop music became fucking boring and so did movies.
Then you had the massive increase in cosmetic surgery which obviously shows how superficial everything was becoming.
The general energy became bad and people became more bitter and cynical and it's just continued on this awful path. When I was a child in the 70s and early 80s shops didn't have metal shutters. I think it's just symbolic of the general fear and paranoia that's increased massively that they do now. Same with cars and alarms.

Yeah, probably for chads or high school jocks but for those not blessed in the genetic department? absolute hell on earth.
