They just can't do otherwise. Psychology can't go around saying that X patient needs 10,000 USD of cosmetic surgery to feel better. If the surgery fails to make the patient better, then it's on the therapist who made this judgment. Standard therapy and treatment is judged a safer bet, because patients with BDD do exist and are even common
