I will be honest here. I think 90% of anime is just pedophile crap desguised as entertainment. 99% of self-declared anime fans are disgusting creeps that fantasize about fucking little girls. I have never met a guy into anime who wasn't a completely degenerate outcaste misfit loser...but I wouldn't attribute that fact to his personality being obnoxious. More likely he was a born loser and found that the world of anime Jap comics cater to his very specific personality type. I feel like it depends a lot when you discovered it. If someone got into anime in high school or before, they could develop into the obnoxious shits you see around all the time, regardless of how looks change.
But at the end of the day, anime is more of an effect of being an outcast than a cause.
