PAST ERA
When I look at past masculinity, things that are conventionally masculine in culture, are usually self detrimental
Think of all the classical representations of "masculine acts"
Drinking alcohol and being able to handle strong concentrations as bragging rights (not good for your health in the long run)
Smoking cigarettes are seen as a sign of masculinity, you should be able to "handle" how uncomfortable it is, you shouldn't cough, you should be used to the smoke (not good for your health in the long run)
Strenuous physical labor should be something you are capable of and used to (not good for your health in the long run)
You must be willing to sacrifice your well being and/or life for the safety of women and children [especially women] while expecting nothing in return (not good for your health in the long run)
You must be willing to engage in physical altercations with other men to prove your combat capabilities, especially in defense of the "honor" of "your woman" (not good for your health in the long run)
Etc, etc, etc
The positives of that way back era though is that feminism wasn't relevant, women had roles and restrictions, fast forward to today, and we still have the vestigial remains of this construct of masculinity with none of the positives
PRESENT ERA
When I look at modern masculinity, things that are conventionally masculine in culture have to do with men being submissive in their roles to women, or taking on aspects of things that are conventionally feminine
Accepting female promiscuity and multiple pre-marital sex partners as a norm (emasculating)
Having women hold positions of power above a man (emasculating)
Society trying to sell men the idea of "open relationships" (emasculating)
Men beautifying themselves like bitches competing for "looks points" trying to 1up each other like women typically do (looksmaxxing - emasculating)
Rise of stay at home dads with bread winner moms (emasculating)
Etc, etc, etc
Today as men we live in an era, where the standard of masculinity is structured around the WORST OF THE PAST and the WORST OF THE PRESENT.
Were expected to participate in all the acts that depreciate our health, lower our lifespan, and put us at risk of being physically disabled or killed, while at the same time asked to accept everly increasing submissive and emasculating roles and acts in society as a norm
Modern masculinity is a sham, which reminds me of another thread I made before:

Modern masculinity is a sham, which reminds me of another thread I made before:

"Man Up" Is A Sleight Of Hand Because Masculinity Itself Has Been Feminized
This is why I could never feel shame by being told to "man up" or when I hear the cliche phrase "a real man does X", its because masculinity is no longer about what's masculine, its about what appeals to women. Masculinity in modern times is nothing but "pseudo-masculinity" masquerading as the...
