I have seen that in today's world, in Italy it is impossible to be respected by other males, even friends, if you don't have at least one of these requisites:
* a sustainable lavish lifestyle, with relatively good status symbols and good financial situation, if not social influence: people love to be surrounded by people who can give to them privileges
* a good sexual life and sexual attractiveness, because being desired by women is essential for being considered high status males since women are the limited resource for excellence
* threatening physical constitution, which is especially important in Italy, which is a muscles' Far West, where the police and judiciary don't work and you cannot carry a gun. It is also important in schools where bullying is common.

The problem is that I can find surrogates of sex, like masturbation and prostitution. In addition to that, my sexual drive is less pronounced than that of adolescent years, which represents a peak in human life. Affection of a girlfriend can be substituted by that of family, even if it is not tha same thing, of course.

However, being low status due to my physical appearance, my virginity, my weakness, my inability to make big money (autism, etc.), is what makes me suffer the most. I am constantly bullied by "my friends" who don't respect me. I was assaulted in different occasions. The only alternative to their bullying is isolation and desperation, which would increase my depression, which has not diminished with lithium, cariprazine and sertaline.

I think it does play a major role. If you think you aren’t accepted by society and that no one respects you, obviously negative feelings will build up and manifest in destructive ways. This will lead to isolation and we all know what happens then. Although you could argue, it’s what makes you not accepted by society that is the problem
