Been like this for over 30 years. My parents lived in the LA area very, very briefly. They thought the people there were pretentious assholes and that the city was a dump. This was I believe between 1989-1992, I don't remember the exact years but they only lived there for a couple years because of how much they disliked it. The beaches were a lot better then, though.
