Luigi's Mansion 1 is a parody of Resident Evil. The main gameplay loop of slowly exploring the mansion, unlocking keys, and backtracking is the same. The opening door animation between areas is almost exactly the same. Even the storyline is fairly close to RE1 with a fake mansion and a larger conspiracy.

It's fairly interesting looking at how obsessed Nintendo was with Resident Evil during the GameCube era. I feel as if they saw its success on PS1 and assumed by acquiring timed exclusivity on GameCube they'd do better.

Yeah they are fairly similar

Luigi Kennedy

Mind blown, tbh.

The original silent hill was very popular back then so everybody were rushing to create something simmiliar but also with a unique twist to it.

Bookmarked. Guess I will downlo... , erhm I mean fire up my Nintendo Gamecube to play Luigis's Mansion now to look out for all the similarities. :)

Luigi's Mansion is an OK game. Gameplay wise it's nothing special and it doesn't really reach its full potential. What makes it special is the SOUL. It's a very soulful game.

Thats just by design to make you feel powerless and its not the focus of the games.
I dislike the story so those games don't appeal to me.

Oh, yeah. The survival horror genre was born from it. Fatal Frame is probably the only decent game inspired by it.

Never realized this...
Nintendo really did have a strange obsession with survival horror during the GameCube era. They published two as well.
Eternal Darkness and Geist.

Now a days Nintendo are basically a kids company.
