Fellow Top Goys! I will tell you how to grind War Thunder jets with a phone!
"Off we go into the wild blue yonder,Climbing high into the sun; Here they come, zooming to meet our thunder, At them boys, Give 'er the kill! Down we die, spouting our flame from under! Off with one helluva roar! We live in flame or go down in flame. "
Why struggle with stock vehicles and die endlessly while achieving 0 kills? The rewards for trying and getting 0 kills, and not trying and getting 0 kills, are exactly the same.
You can launch missiles, do everything correct, only to have it kill stolen from you by a screaming R-27ER, so trying isn't even rewarded at all; not rewarding trying, is a bigger problem than the grind itself.
Even though the missile gameplay is shit, you must admit that the missiles made mobile gaming possible (sometimes you can even be fairly competitive); imagine trying to gunfight while using the touchscreen!
I made this guide to improve your mental health while ensuring that you will come out of the hangar with a new, shiny, full equipped jet, preferrably fully spaded.
This guide is not for you if you:
- Lacks a premium account (to offset repair costs)
- Cares about KDR
- Is a smelly "skill issue" drone incapable of critical thinking
Note: This guide mostly applies to Fox-3 tier, but also works for SARH tier, albeit you will miss out on the easy missile 'automation'
Anyway, let's start.
1. Download Steam Link from the App store and set up your buttons, the more buttons the better, you can see it in the screenshot below:
2. Bind your keys, like changing radar mode, resetting radar boresight, WASD for thrust/wing control (you will use your mouse for general flight control), firing of missiles, radar lock, flaps, Y menu, 1234, dropping bombs, views etc.
3. Go to Air RB mode.
4. Click "To battle".
5. Spawn at airfield (for extra RP).
6. Take off and point your plane at the general direction to the bases.
7. If you want to hide your gameplay from your boss/parents, you can darken your phone's screen, go into plane cockpit (because it's darker), and press 'pause' (further darkening your screen until you need to act and unpause); some small companies let employees stream media.
8. Fly to the sky (optional if you want to fly to the flanks of the map). Make sure you look around at the cockpit for coolness factor and deniability to anti-cheat and moderators (just in case).
9. Fire your radar missiles if you want to get a kill once in a while (be ware of friendly fire!), about 30km for AMRAAM, within 20km for PL-12 etc. You may also want to shoot down missiles, which may be easier than shooting down planes, giving you a small but fair reward.
10. With the flick of a finger, notch the missiles as they come and turn your plane sideways, chaff (you will most likely fail in this if it's Fakour, which does not trigger RWR until about 6-10km)
11. Die to a missile (you still get baseline RP), if not, proceed to the next steps.
12. Return your direction to a base.
13. You should be above a base, now bomb it (if you are flying planes without CCIP, just get very close to drop the bombs).
14. Return to base.
15. Repeat this until the round ends.
16. Press "to battle" again.
BONUS STEP: Make sure if your KD is below 0.2, try to get some ground kills or AI plane kills (count towards your KD), so in the event that Gaijin uses stats to bust bots, you won't be swept up.
RP gains should be roughly 500-2500; slightly lower for modules if you have the previous vehicle bonus + 5 daily bonuses from grinding an end BR vehicle (This is baseline RP gain only dying, 2k+ is mostly talisman based).
Typical session (notice the munitions eliminations):
I spaded the EF-2000, F-15E, SU-27SM, F-14s, F-4EJ, F-4EJ Kai, F-15J, F-15J(M) and many more other planes that way, before I even put a tailsman on them. It's 'time consuming', but it's entirely passive so you can do your own thing.
You can do that while watching movies, while working, while doing homework, etc etc.
Yes, I do these, and my KD with some jets are 0.2 or something, but all I care for is the vibe and to test drive new planes.
