I think people are innately selfish and greedy, because resource-maximization drives have been selected for in our evolutionary history as things like food, territory, mates, etc. were hard to come by until very recently.
The problem is that while these are maladaptive traits for modern civilization, we are still saddled with them nonetheless, as evolution takes millions of years.

Libertarians are only correct in that governments should reduce government red tape for common people to do stuff with their money and their hatred of tariffs because the biggest motivator for innovation is competitive advantage.
