I see your point. When I think about how successful my old classmates/acquaintances are, especially compared to me, I feel a strong, negative emotional reaction. No matter how much I tell myself I don't care, no matter how much I really just enjoy rotting and laying in bed playing video games, I still care for some reason.

Same. It's not even necessarily about looks only, it's about every single aspect of our lives. I keep comparing myself to them, I can't help myself, even though I'm brutally careermogged and educationmogged by them.
