On August 22, 1999, a 12-year-old boy fell from the Drop Tower and died. His family claimed the shoulder harnesses were not locked properly. An investigation was inconclusive and no charges were filed.

Joshua Smurphat of Sunnyvale somehow slipped out of his Drop Zone car while 50 to 100 feet above the ground Sunday afternoon. He died instantly upon hitting the concrete below.
The youngster had been strapped into the "free fall" ride with a steel harness at the beginning of the ride, authorities said, noting that there have been no other serious accidents on the ride since it opened in 1996.

Yeah a big nigger died that way too.

SPLAT!

LOL!!

ohhhh a drop tower

This kids face in the afterlife when nobody cared

He would have suffered all his life anyway. Better like this.

Saved him from a lifetime of suffering.

Dropped as a baby, dropped as a kid

You wouldn't laugh if it happened to you
Who knows, if this never happened, this guy could've been here with all the things he had

I wish it happened to me, its hard to try and kill my self, easier to die of abnormal or natural causes like this

Bro you remembered this news cutting and this boy from 1999, at least someone remembered him

He would have been a mod here if he was still alive

I hope the kid didn't suffer and died quickly or instantly.
His life would have been hell anyway.

He was the same age as you
12 in 1999
I am sure he didn't want to die, at that age, but imo he is lucky for checking out so early.

Fuck this life.

Unrelated question but how was 1999 or the 90s in general?

MUCH BETTER than nowadays, which surprises even me to say it.

There was this feeling that the future would be super cool.

Man, obviousely I was a gamer kid.

I remember when the PS2 and Sega Dreamcast got announced.

We felt invincible. Life was great, aside from the insane bullying at school.

Even more brutal fact: that's the best thing that could have happened to him considered how his life would be in the future.
