If in today's society an individual has a fundamental need that can't be fullfilled, he will be either coerced, or down-right forced to participate in the institutionalized brainwashing of psychotherapy.
There he will be introduced to the four "healthy coping skills":
1) Coping with "problem solving" "Just do x/y/z , bro!"
2)Cognitive Reframing/Challenging "unhelpful thoughts" "[insert whatever is lacking in your life] is not that important anyway!"
3) Engaging in mood-boosting activities "Just do [insert cheap replacement for whatever is lacking in your life] bro!"
4) Coping with stress-relief-techniques "Just meditate, bro!"
Sooner or later the fundamental need that can't be fullfilled will be entirely dismissed, or even worse, misdiagnosed as "vulnerable narcissism" and the new "mental health patient" will be told that "nobody owes him anything".
His needs and desires will be interpreted as something bad which the "patient" should simply change.
At the end of the day it all comes down to the notion "Just don't want what you want, bro!"
But here's a hard-to-swallow pill for you:
"Man may be able to do what he wants, but he can't want what he wants"
-St. SchopenhauER
This quote basically means:
You can't change your fundamental needs and desires, no matter how hard you try.
They are just there, and you can't do anything about them.
There is no "positive re-intepretation" of life circumstances.
Our bodies and minds have evolved to interpret those circumstances negatively over millions of years, and 20 minutes of talk therapy a week can't make up for that.
You are also not a vulnerable narcissist for having needs.
While it is technically true nobody is owed anything, shaming people for their unchangeable needs is counterproductive or even downright harmful.
Therapy is useless at best.
I repeat, therapy is useless, ESPECIALLY if your life is so fucked up that you ended up on this forum.
If you want somebody to gaslight and shame you for your biological needs you are better off just paying a dominatrix.
Probably costs less than a fucking therapist.
