I haven’t finish yet, but the book really try to make pat a sympathetic character even though he commit heinous act. The book is a criticism on materealistic society, not even woman are make an exception as all the major female character are materealistic slut.

Also pat had more sympathetic moment like how he think that if he died nobody will ever miss him, also he live to spite others basically. Also the woman he spared are different in the book.
