Hi guys I am learning it just for fun. I don't ever plan on visiting the country or actually speaking it, I just want to learn to read.

I already know quite a bit (not much tho), but I'll probably put my Japanese learning journey here just to motivate me ig

if there's any japcel or weebs who are fluent are willing to help me in my journey, please feel free to do so

I'm not too sure what to put here tho hmm...

I guess I could attempt to translate hentai manga or some shit, and I'll try to memorize new vocabulary I haven't learnt yet. The main issue I have is grammar, and reading kanji

Had never seen these Kanji before, but from countless hours watching anime, I could kinda guess that's what he said and blindly typed it into the IME, and I was correct! 超嬉しい！

While there is no Kanji here, it was kinda hard for me to parse, had no idea what the fuck was she trying to say originally. I love context heavy languages!

Since Japanese doesn't often explicitly use pronouns, you have to infer who is referring to who. In this case, the sentence was literally "take... good" WTF????

I guess I should have realized the よ at the back implies that she is allowing Sensei to do something, and she was referring to taking the chocolate.

Super long sentences like these are the bane of my existence. Completely didn't understand it at all.

Firstly, let's figure out what those Kanji are.
渡す　わたす(watasu) -> hand over
主流　しゅりゅう(shuryuu) -> main stream/main current (of river)

So the sentence in full:
最近は　こうやって　好きな人にチョコを渡すのが主流になっている…とノノミに聞いた
(Saikin wa, kouyatte, sukina hito ni choko wo watasu no ga shuryuu ni natte iru...to Nonomi ni kiita)

I can read it now, but I still have no fucking clue what is it trying to say. GPT time!

It gave me a breakdown for me; here's the main parts I had issues with:

こう(like this) やって(doing it this way)

チョコを渡すのが -> I knew it meant something about giving chocolate, but the 「のが」 at the end made it into something like "the act of giving chocolate"

主流になっている -> something becoming mainstream. I guess this was directly translated from English into Japanese? Not sure. Because I was wondering what does a river have to do with chocolates

…と -> quotation marker. Marks previous words as quotes. Learnt this before in a grammar lesson, but I am not used to having the quotation marker at the back so I had trouble. English is like, "Elliot said, 'I am the supreme gentleman'". The "said" (which marks quotations) is placed at the front.

…とノノミに聞いた -> Since I figured out what the previous one means, I immediately realized what this one is supposed to be. "I heard from Nonomi that ..."

Full translation:
"I heard from Nonomi that, recently, giving chocolate to your those who you like, like this, has become common"

The way Japanese is completely backwards from Engish breaks my brain. Over for forwardcels.

Thanks! I actually do use a textbook which I just pirated online, in addition to translating these. But I practice using paper and pen, and for OPSEC reasons, since it's a bad idea to show your handwriting online, I won't send those here.
