Love is the "romantization" of lust, after the Romantic period, people wanted to "deify" or glorify mundane prosaic matters to make the socialites look less like animals and more like unique muster.
This seeped into the consumerism lifestyle that boomed in the Industrial Revolution and the later wonders of the XX century, so it made people believe that love is something and it is unique to humans.

When in reality, it's just banal sex.
