Ageism is political so I'm putting this in the politics section.
Why is marriage between a man and a girl considered wrong? If you compare it to food it makes no sense: is there any food that is harmful when you're young but somehow magically becomes safe when you're young? Sure you might say alcohol and other drugs are banned for girls, but if you think about it that makes no sense. Alcoholism is bad at any age. You can die of alcohol-induced liver disease as an adult - it was always bad. Of course the main argument will be that medicine might need to be a lower dose for girls, but I don't think the marital act is a drug. Nobody has died from the marital act... In fact, according to research that says marriage increases happiness and longevity. Why should girls be denied these rights? In fact, these are rights - life and happiness, according to the Declaration of Independence. There's an article titled, "Marriage—Good Mental Medicine, Even for Couples Marrying Young."
I feel like young marriage is the solution to the fatherlessness crisis among girls. Research shows that fatherlessness - the absence of an older male in a girl's life - has negative effects on girls, even when controlling for socioeconomic variables. Could allowing youth marriage, allowing an older male to be present as a husband in a girl's life, be a panacea to society's ills?
If you think about it, this is feminist. Feminists say "believe all women." I don't disagree. Shouldn't teen women who say marrying as a youth would be good for them be believed?
Also I'm just talking about teen girls. If you think preteens should be allowed to marry, you're SCUM.
