I mean, you do you. Ultimately I think you should just use whatever you like to use.

I tend to like fairly friendly Linux distributions with a somewhat retro feel. So I'm on Linux Mint MATE because it kind of just feels like a desktop from about 2005! It's good I think! No notifications or other random drama just peaceful to use ^_^

Nice. I also like retro looking OSes. Currently I'm running Compiz. It looks great and shiny. I don't like the gross flat UIs of modern software. It will forever remind me of enshitiffied jeetware full of spyware and bloat masquerading as "soft and family friendly" with all the rounded corners.
