I don't get why India would need to suck up to China if they stomped on Pakistan. But then this area of the world isn't known for consistency in choice of 'allies' (Pakistan and India)

its because of tariff war between india and usa. USA intially wanted to use india as a counter to china in manufacturing but then trump came and india pakistan war happened trump claimed he did the ceasefire which india refused saying that ceasefire was done because pakistan's high officials requested them to do so. So now trump is pissed with india and has sanctioned india with 50% tarrifs by using russia ukraine war as a distraction saying india is funding war in ukraine by buying gas from russia. This Indo-china alliance is mostly to counter america. Keep in mind both countries have land disputes for many years china claims certain section of north east india whereas india claims aksai chai as part of kashmir, India. This alliance is just till trump is sitting in power. And both china and india have always been close allies of russia with india being more close to russia
