I actually think there is a connection between appearance and belief. Personally I am pagan, but I have been Catholic for almost 5 years. The fact that I was never very attractive perhaps allowed me to focus on other aspects of my life.

This. I'd argue there is more of a connection (albeit a low correlation) between incels and religion. There are also certain monastic orders within the Catholic church that are required to take a vow of celibacy. Hell, even Catholic priests are required to maintain celibacy too.
