Debates often bother me. I am no longer in the mood for give-and-take. Whenever I leave a contentious message somewhere like the fact that Jews rule Western civilization or women's liberation was a tremendous mistake, some very energetic person jumps in and writes an incredibly long essay that I am supposed to respond, but I can only laugh at the effort knowing I will not bother to read it.

Yes, I make an exception for the users here because we are on the same page most often than not, and no one seriously disagrees that Jews rule Western civilization or women's liberation was a mistake. I was mostly referring to online discussions outside this forum.

I agree sometimes. There are times when I'm just too burned out to argue with someone. There are also times where I will go all out and argue back and forth with them.

And then there are other times when I simply will say that I've said my opinion, anyone who disagrees with me even slightly deserves to die and should immediately kill themselves. In real life, not in a video game.

Great point. You touched on something that I was thinking about some time ago. People had to make themselves relevant before having the privilege to be listened to, whereas now all you have to do is create a Twitter or Reddit account so you can post your opinions (no matter how trash they are) freely. I wonder how life was when people didn't debate about trivial things.

Debates are only really useful when it's done between two opposing people who actually know their stuff in front of an audience OR when it's done by two people who already kinda agree and are working together to get to the truth.

When it's just side A versus side B throwing any shit they can find onto each other, it's not only useless but detrimental. I have unfortunately participated in such pointless arguments many time in the past but I don't plan on doing it again.
