I remember the days before we had smartphones (pre-2007). I started using the internet at the age of 8 in 2006. And at first, it was on a Windows desktop PC. Kids are growing up these days not knowing what cartoons are because they grow up on social media. We have an entire generation of brain rot. I was born in 1998, so I grew up on Teen Titans, Totally Spies, Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh, Duel Masters, Pokemon, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Bolly & Mandy, Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends, Samurai Jack, Invader Zim and so on. By the time I reached 13, popular media was already dead. TV had nothing to watch. I used to like My Name Is Earl. I even used to have those On-Demand channels. To any younger users on here, what is your childhood like growing up in the cancer era (2011-present)?

This is basically Gen Z era, pre smartphone where we still use the landline. I still even remember using Skype back in the day.

Tbh, this era was still strong around 2016 so some Gen Alpha did see some parts of it. I particularly still remember 2011 - 2013 era where YouTube was actually creative and TV shows were still exciting (at the same time I first discovered adult swim shows like South Park, etc)

In 2016 things did briefly get better meme-wise, but that was largely due to Vine, YouTube and Trump.

You had to wait to watch YouTube videos back then. But most of them were only 5 minutes long at the time. Used to watch the same ones over and over again

MySpace was still a thing.

I have been surfing the web since dial up modems were a thing.

You have no idea how exciting that was.

Not only was the internet far different back then, in the early 90's, you could also appreciate it much more since every minute would cost money, the sites would load slowly, especially with images on them and you only had a certain budget to surf the web.

Best time. Nowadays the internet feels like fast food.
There is a lot of garbage online.

Even back when the world wide web was already established, I think it was in 2002 or so, an expert once said that at that point the internet is basically just porn and commerce, nothing more.
I remember reading that and I had to agree with him.
