Are you suppose to have black mold all in walls and windows? My father says it's fine, but everytime I sleep I have respiratory pain and it feels like I'm breathing in a bioweapon. I feel like I have grit in my eyes and my tongue hurts.

Should I just knock down the walls? I can't deal with this.

Is black mold all that bad if I'm sleeping right near it?

Father said it was burnt wood from a previous home owner, but it cleary isn't, and then told me I was crazy.

I'm about to sleep outside.

Your dad is a moron, if he said it's fine. Mold causes respiratory issues, get that shit cleaned asap.

Interesting user

You have to get rid of the mold asap. Depends on how big the damage is - if it is small some bleach will do the trick, but you don't sound like you have a small problem. Get some mold control.

I thought the title said "moid" and was worried for a second :worryfeels:

blacked mold

The original poster sounds legitimately concerned, not irrational. If there’s visible dark mold growth around walls/windows and they’re waking up with respiratory irritation, eye irritation, and throat/tongue discomfort, that’s not something to casually dismiss. Mold exposure affects people differently, but moisture intrusion plus mold absolutely can aggravate airways and make a room feel miserable to sleep in.

A few important distinctions though:

  • “Black mold” gets used online for almost every dark-colored mold. Not every black-looking mold is the infamous Stachybotrys chartarum.
  • The biggest issue is often the moisture problem itself — leaks, condensation, rotting drywall, poor ventilation, soaked insulation, etc.
  • If mold is extensive inside walls/windows, simply “coping” with it is a bad idea.

The reply calling the father a “moron” is emotionally understandable but not especially useful. A lot of older homeowners genuinely underestimate mold because they grew up treating it as “just mildew” unless it was catastrophic. But if the father is insisting obvious mold is merely “burnt wood,” that’s concerning denial or wishful thinking.

The part where the poster says:

“I feel like I’m breathing in a bioweapon”

…is probably exaggerated anxiety language, but the discomfort itself may still be real. Mold can absolutely contribute to:

  • coughing
  • sinus irritation
  • wheezing
  • watery/burning eyes
  • sore throat
  • headaches
  • worsened asthma/allergies

What they shouldn’t do:

  • Randomly smash walls down without protection 😅
That can aerosolize spores and make things worse.

More sensible steps would be:

  1. Identify moisture source (leak, condensation, rot).
  2. Ventilate the area.
  3. Avoid sleeping directly beside visible growth.
  4. Use an N95 mask if cleaning small areas.
  5. Get professional remediation if it’s extensive.
  6. If symptoms are significant, see a doctor — especially if there’s asthma or immune issues involved.

Sleeping outside is probably unnecessary unless the house is catastrophically contaminated, but sleeping in a visibly moldy damp room long-term is also not ideal. The “burnt wood” explanation especially makes me skeptical if the poster can visibly see spreading discoloration around windows and walls.

Bleach apparently doesn't work. Can make it worse. Someone said white vinegar is mucj better

I grew up with black mold just like that and my dad also said the same thing jfl. "quit bein a pussy, it's fine!"

yes, its bad for you and will cause respiratory problems

Thanks AI. Ask it how to get black mold out of window sills where the metal wraps around the wood, so I can't get to the wood and kill the mold, because the metal hugs around it. I don't want to get new windows because they are thousands of dollars, but I remember cleaning it years ago with vinegar and peroxide abd the mold returned with a vengeance and I think it's because I'm unable to kill all the mold spores inside the metal portion of the window where damp wood is.

Might want to change that title, 'moid' is 'femcel' slang for a man :feelskek:

I wake up feeling like shit everyday. I'm willing to bet it's the mold causing my sleep to be shit because I fucking go on vacation with family for 15 days and my throat, eyes, sinus clear up and I feel so much better

I'm being facetious. I want people to see title and go wtf, and click. Plus, as a straightcel even if I tried to sleep with a man, I would fail. Smv is too low

I first read moid like in foid and I thaught this was next level faggot posting

If the mold keeps returning specifically from behind aluminum or vinyl cladding wrapped around damp wood, then yeah — the likely issue is that the underlying wood is staying wet and colonized. Surface cleaning alone won’t permanently solve that. The vinegar/peroxide probably killed what you could reach, but not the embedded growth inside the wrapped section.

A few practical things you can try before “replace the entire window” territory 😅:

  • Remove as much moisture as possible first. Mold remediation without fixing moisture is basically mowing weeds.
  • Check for condensation vs. water intrusion:
    • Condensation = usually humidity/poor insulation/poor airflow.
    • Water intrusion = failed caulk, flashing, exterior leaks, rotted sill, etc.
  • If the metal wrapping is tight against the wood, mold can live in the dark damp cavity indefinitely.

What sometimes works better than vinegar alone:

  1. Dry the area aggressively

  • Fans
  • Dehumidifier
  • Keep indoor humidity around 35–50%
  • Even gentle heat helps

  1. Use a mold killer that penetrates
People often have better luck with:

  • Concrobium Mold Control
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Borax solution

Bleach is usually overrated for porous wood because it mostly nukes the surface.

  1. Try to get solution INTO the wrapped seam
Since you can’t access the wood:

  • Use a spray bottle with a narrow nozzle
  • Or a syringe/turkey baster style applicator
  • Flood the seam lightly and repeatedly over days
  • Let it dry thoroughly between treatments

  1. Re-seal after drying
    If exterior moisture is entering:

  • Remove and replace failing caulk around the window
  • Especially top corners and sill edges

  1. Watch for soft wood
    If the wood beneath feels:

  • spongy
  • crumbling
  • swollen
  • constantly damp

…then you may be dealing with actual rot, not just superficial mold. At that point, the hidden wood may need partial repair even if the whole window doesn’t.

One important thing: black-colored mold is not automatically the infamous toxic “black mold” people imagine. Lots of common household molds are dark. But if exposure is giving you persistent:

  • coughing
  • wheezing
  • burning eyes
  • sinus issues
  • chest tightness

…then it’s still worth taking seriously regardless of species.

You might also consider opening one small section of the wrap in the worst area to inspect what’s happening underneath before spending thousands on full replacement. Sometimes the hidden damage is surprisingly localized. Other times you discover the sill is basically compost wearing a metal hat. 😬
