I’m using it rn and holy fuck it takes me a few seconds to type each letter.

It seems that if I ever manage to learn this it will be the most difficult task I would ever had undertook in my whole life.

Also I'm going cold turkey so I will likely post less for a while because of how god damn slowly I type now.

why are you doning this to youself

Pointless self-crippling masochism JFL, low-IQ-maxx ngl.

Qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnm

It is weird that qwerty became the default layout for keyboards when it is so unintuitive. It has one vowel and a semi colon on home row. I could be wrong but i think the layout dates back to typewriters. People making typewriters didnt want people to perform keystrokes too fast or it would fuck up the typewriter. Anyone who’s used a typewriter before would know what i mean. So they used the qwerty layout to slow people down.

this lol
unless youre a competetive speed typer or something gay like that then this is pointless
It could be useful for coding purposes.

dvorak is shit and qwerty is superior change my mind

oh wait ... you can't :feelshaha:

making everything you do 50x harder for no reason whatsoever literally not a single benefit

there must be an advantage, we can just not see it. i hope

I'd rather spend the time learning a new language than learning this
High IQ.

The time invested into learning a new language will have far higher utility than learning a new arrangement of keys on a keyboard.

In fact, I'm questioning why people even do this. There has to be some kind of ergonomic or health benefit to this. Reduced chance of arthritis?

its gotta be some low iq autistmaxxing, only thing i can come up with, literally why else would you invest that much energy into something so pointless

My keyboard is qwerty but it lights up in pretty colors that I can customize.

It so happens that I got motivated to learn dvorak while spending lots of time typing on duolingo. It made me realize that I was not as good a typist as I thought I was, and that typing quickly was very uncomfortable.

Update : I'm still struggling, but I do notice progress.

Not giving up anyway.

Why do you use it are you a STEMcel or computersciencecel?

I don't code much these days but I do type a lot.

Also recently I acquired one of these :

1614778561449

yes, the version with the blank keys, so I had to improve my touch-typing skills, and I thought I might as well take it as an opportunity to learn dvorak.

what's the point of learning dvorak when qwerty is globally accepted keyboard layout?

what a way to increase your suffering

I never understood the point of DVORAK. I've had other aspie/autist coder friends try and convince me to learn because supposedly it's easier on your hands and they all had some form of carpal from decades of coding. I don't type enough to warrant learning it.

It apparently is ergonomically better to type DVORAK than it is typing QWERTY. If your hands are healthy, though, it's gimmicky.

For what it's worth I type exclusively in dvorak now. It's not difficult anymore, but I don't type much quicker than I used to. It does feel more comfortable, though.

That would be like learning to write with your left hand... for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
