I don’t know my mother tongue and never went back home. So I’m basically a rootless black who doesn’t belong anywhere. My religious status as a Muslim is my only real source of identity
If you were to ever go back just say your Muslim and they would let you in
Why place so much weight on identity and cultural roots? Mainstream discourse say these are uber-important, but when you think about it a little, any group of people who accept you is enough, and it's more important to remain consistent and true to your heart than displaying an outward sameness with a particular group of people, which is what "identity" often refers to today.
