I’ve never had the gumption to get on a dating site, but I’d say that you need to have very attractive pictures in your profile in order to get by with just a “hi”.
Everybody else would surely have to jump a million hoops with well-timed key phrases and innuendo, and even then, chances are slim. It’s a buyer’s market.
What I hate about the prospect of online dating is that it presents the same issues that I have with the act of applying for a job online. You’re literally competing with a vast cross section of the local unemployed population, trying to get past a keyword filter, having to put in the work to tweak your credentials and build an initial rapport with a cover letter...just to get a 1% chance of acceptance and to most likely get ghosted.
The internet was a mistake.
