To be fair, this is nothing new, as many societies largely viewed marriage as transactional as up until the 20th century or so, the reason why people got married was largely akin to a business arrangement. The parents of the future bride would often look at the class, financial status, occupation, and temperament of a potential suitor before greenlighting any sort of marriage.

"Marrying for love" is quite a recent idea in human history, and in many parts of the world doing so would be considered ridiculous.
