I'd rather have a third Portal over the mythical Half Life release.

Let's face it, no matter how much time Valve puts into Half Life 3, it will never live up to its hype, unless it introduces something extraordinary in gaming. It has multiple aspects which need to be almost perfect to succeed: Graphics, Performance, Storyline, and Game play. It simply can't take the brunt against all the expectations.

Portal, on the other hand, would be much more forgiving.

Unlike a typical FPS, it doesn't demand an entire team to work over time with making sure the weapons and enemy placement are 100% balanced and satisfying, as it is a puzzle game. What would naturally be a step up is the introduction of different environments in place of the labs of the first two games, plus an all new portal system to make the puzzles more challenging and satisfying. The possibilities of the puzzles are endless, and invite much more creative freedom to devs than having to stick with trying to build a storyline off of addressing the cliffhanger in HL2:EP 2(I know Alyx touched on it, but it took place between HL & HL 2.) Overall, the result would be much more successful, and less disappointing, as it doesn't suffer from the same insane amount of anticipation.

Plus, it's about high time for a Portal title to come with additional DLC, which isn't just based off of a fan game, but brings to the table more consistent levels, regardless if they differ from the base game or not.

meh, i don't see why Portal 3 would live up to the hype either
the team right now is working off of their recent experience making multiplayer games and VR slop
also...
they are actually not separating the franchises the way you would think
like with any media company, there are faggots up top trying to create a 'Marvel extended universe' out of the IPs
so Half-Life, Portal and maybe even more Valve games are all supposed to be in the same universe, and you can expect a new game to be all about that, in fact the appearance of Aperture Science in HL3 is something already expected if not confirmed
well to me that's all retarded but I'm not in charge

I doubt a third Half Life will ever happen anytime soon, because even Valve is aware of how monumental a task would be to release a quality product, but including Aperture Science in a Half-Life game ain't it. There was already Black Mesa in the first one, so reintroducing a lab setting from a whole different game would feel like an out of place rehash.

But maybe I'm just biased. Personally, I could care less about any new gen Half Life title. Even the second one was just OK to me.

Honestly I would hope they just reset everything, hard. Just do something really new whichever IP they use. I'm pretty tired of both City 17 and Aperture Science as settings tbh.

I know Portal 2 at one point had an outdoor setting, but it was restricted to Aperture Science. It would be pretty cool if you were forced to navigate an urban city or any other entirely non-related setting. You even exited to a field at the very end of the sequel.
