Well I drew without construction lines for years and years and I only began to use them quite lately.
To me they feel like some sort of hack and make everything easier and symmetrical without much effort. If you don't know how to draw, using construction lines like some sort of religious cultist might make the whole point of drawing boring and kill your creativity.
Draw as you see fit first to understand the tools you're using, and then use construction lines if they are useful to do what you want.
Or maybe I'm just a self taught retard after all.
