I have returned from my two-day break, and I thought that I may as well return by making a post about something that I've been wanting to talk about for a while now...

Recently, one had decided that he wanted to start watching more anime considering that even though I've been labeling myself a 'weeb' for many years now, one has never actually watched more than a few popular shows. So, I decided to start torrenting different shows to watch. I'm pretty slow when it comes to binging stuff, though, so I've only gotten through maybe four or five anime so far. I only just finished No Game No Life roughly two days ago.

Since I, however, had no particular ideas on what to watch after that, I just randomly picked something off of Nyaa—and I ended up choosing 'Mars Red.' I started it yesterday, and, truthfully, I have zero clue what is going on. It's some kind of vampire anime, and while I thought the plot was simple enough at first, I couldn't keep up with it after reaching episode six. They keep showing off what I'm fairly certain are meant to be plot-twists, but I can't help but just be confused when they're shown.

After that, I realized that I was clearly just missing something, and so I went to search up summaries for the episodes on the fanwiki—which I didn't WANT to do, but I unfortunately wasn't left with much of a choice.

And yet, I was left to discover that this anime has nobody writing down the summaries for it. Imagine my shock when I visited the wiki to only find summaries for episode ONE AND TWO, and the rest left ENTIRELY BLANK?

Now I'm left with no choice but to waste the next two hours or so rewatching the past six episodes just so I can understand the plot... I made this entire post because I rarely see people talk about how impactful the IQpill is. For whatever reason, there's some people here who genuinely believe that being low-IQ is somehow pleasant because they think that having a low IQ means that you can't understand your situation. I, for a time, too believed that considering people said it all the time—or, at the very least, eluded to it. That's why I never figured out that I was low-IQ until I actually got it tested.

In reality, you're fully aware of your situation. You can't, however, actually do anything about it. I'm going to always struggle with stuff like grasping plotlines, because I'm inherently trash at making connections between things and that's how it's always going to be. It's something endemic to my existence. If you're low-IQ, your life is significantly more miserable and even stuff like coping is more difficult for you than it is other people. How solemn...

I feel for you. Brutal.

I ended up having to rewatch all the episodes on top of visiting random discussions they had on r/anime when the series first released. Apparently, a lot of the plot is focused on various theatre, and unfortunately for me, I've literally never seen any theatre in my life...

I empathise. While I never watched anime, whenever I have tried to read or watch a movie, I lose track of the characters and plot fast and have to dedicate tons of mental energy to stay invested and follow along. I zone out heaps as well and generally struggle to immerse myself.

Me with the monogatari series

Just watch DBZ

I made a post once where I complained that I am utterly abysmal at recalling the names of various characters in the shows I watch. I can unironically go fourty episodes into something and still be incapable of telling you the name of already-established characters. If I REALLY try, I can force myself to remember certain aspects of a story, but as you said, it takes a lot of mental energy to do that—it's not fun at all...

That's why I only watch ecchi and romcom anime lol. I feel love vicariously through anime :lul:. I feel you on low iq tho, people do not realize how brutal it is. makes life 10x more difficult

Yes, this is the crux of the issue and why I personally have given up on fiction almost all together. I can't become invested or engaged enough in most stories to where I can willingly consume it and effectively absorb the information, so trying to engage with fiction just feels like a chore.

Being low-IQ means you suck at everything and have to expend significantly more effort into everything you do. You're locked out from interacting with like 90% of the things in life in any manner other than shallowly. I despise it. And yet, you'll still have people acting as if 'high-IQ doesn't do anything for them,' not realizing how good they have it. I can see literally zero downsides to being high-IQ.

I have the same problem.

The only advice I can give is to only watch one anime at a time, and to only watch an anime that's fully completed so you can watch it all within a certain timeframe. Also stick to anime with simple plots. Like basic shonen where all of the action is explicit (Death Note, Code Geass, MHA, etc.). Those anime also always have enough exposition and visual cues to spell out to low IQ viewers what's going on.

But with anime that has a lot of implicit action, psychological depth, and more abstract concepts I get lost. I can still enjoy superficial parts of those anime, but I'm lost and wouldn't for the life of me be able to explain the plot properly. Like with higurashi, I wouldn't have been able to explain the plot properly even right after I finished watching it and it was fresh on my mind. But I really liked the arc where Shion went full yandere.

Anyway, I have no idea how so many anime fans are able to follow like 6 different anime at once. There's also the fact that sometimes there's over a year between seasons (2 or more years between seasons isn't unusual in anime). I have no idea how people are able to remember what was going on last season when last season was 2 years ago and they've watched a bunch of other anime in between.

It's not low-iq. Anime is boring and hard to focus on. Plus there's so many animes with shitty writing.

You're not missing anything

A lot of them really are just confusing bullshit, riddled with plot holes

Have you ever considered that maybe you’re actually really smart and that its the animes fault for not having a concise plot?
