I was a big player of a certain fast-paced FPS shooter back in the day which I poured YEARS into. Being a veteran, you crush noobs & big talkers but sometimes come across very skilled people. The thrill of testing your skills against theirs, reading their movements - it was the ultimate experience.

You loved seeing your name on that leaderboard, people praising you for being so good, the glory...

I retired from that.
