I kinda hope I get Christmas money from my mother this year, even though I hate her

a few years ago, my parents (divorced) sent me money via bank transfers on my birthday and on Christmas.

My father sent me money once, but stopped, and now he's pretty much disowned me.
But my mother still sent me money on Christmas, until she stopped for a few years.
She probably forgot when my birthday was tbh.

Last year, while I was living in Bridgwater after my release from Bristol prison, I got a Christmas payment of £50 in my bank account from her.
I felt pretty bad about it, but still accepted it because moneys still money.
That act of hers not going to inspire me to re establish contact with her or the rest of my family though.

Rn, I've got no cash until the 26th and I have to get by off shoplifting.

How do you manage to steal from shops? Is there no surveillance, or does nobody care if people steal? I've seen a few videos of people stealing in the UK; has it really gotten that bad?

Yeah, police and shopkeepers pretty much don't care if you shoplift, but it depends entirely on what your stealing.
If you steal something that's over £200, the shopkeepers will call the police, they'll take that seriously and come looking for you.
But if you steal food like I do, the shopkeepers and police won't care too much.

Most shops here have small skeleton crew staff working at them, so going in and nicking things is very easy.
The prisons are also full and the police are understaffed, they prefer to investigate more serious crimes like assault, rape and murder, not petty thefts.
Most you'll get from them for that is either a fine and a permanent ban from the shop.
