Because the psychological bias that leads to such a belief is so fucking obvious. More so than the belief in a deity. It's almost embarrassing as to how easily one can see through the thought process. People only believe in such a thing because
1. They do not want to die
2. They do not want their life to be supposedly meaningless
3. They want divine retribution/reward to make justice an ontological part of reality.

I wouldn't mind living forever but afterlife simply doesn't exist.
 
That’s why deism makes more sense than classical theism.
